And finally! Here are the photos from my Oceanographic Cruise:
My cabin. Three other people slept in there with me, but I got my own bunk! Surprisingly comfortable.
Shower-toilet!
We had some GREAT meals here. Best food I had in Alaska.
Good ole Pandalus
Tools and gear
Wave Buoy, to be anchored just outside Kachemak Bay. The only source of wave data for the region.
Preparing to deploy the deep-water drifter buoy.
plop
The hook and the cannonball were usually my job, but Boss took over this time so I could get publicity shots.
Augustine volcano. Clouds make her look like she's smoking.
Tuxedni Bay where we harbored the first night. That was pretty special. Not a lot of people have access to these areas.
Huge oil rig
Deployed wave buoy!
It's difficult to see here, but I got three volcanoes in one frame. Augustine, Illiamna, and Redoubt.
Douglas (volcano)!
The pictures don't do it justice.
Douglas was beautiful.
In Alaska the sunset lasts for hours. It's great. Augustine looks great in orange and yellow.
The full moon rising over the Barren Islands.
I don't have any pictures posted here of anywhere but the Barrens, but for a while on our trip we were able to see the norhtern tip of the Kodiak Archipelago, The Barren Islands, Douglas, the Kenai Peninsula, Shelikof Strait, the mouth of Cook Inlet, and the Pacific Ocean off different sides of our ship.
Once again, not pictured here, but the tens of whale spouts off all sides of the boat in the moonlight weren't bad.
We had a great crew :)
