I spent my first three days in Homer.
We stayed at the Kachemak Bay Research Reserve bunkhouse. If you haven't heard of NERRS, get yourself informed. I am a hardcore fangirl.
not a pregnant moose, but a moose none the less
This is a real time, to scale, tide depth gizmo at the Alaska Islands and Oceans Visitor Center. This thing is fantastic, and the first of it's kind. It is also amazing to note the variance in tide in this region, floor to ceiling. Few estuaries in the Reserve System can even detect tides.
The view from the Islands and Oceans Center. The fog comes in with the tide. Beluga Slough is seen to the left and along the shore.
Another photo across the Bay. This one includes Homer Spit, the tourist center, and docks for the city.
